Benefit change fears

We wonder what 'remove automatic entitlement to housing support for 18-21 year olds' will mean in practice.  A lot turns on the word 'automatic'.

It is the YMCA's fears about this which have brought this to our attention.  It houses 1 400 of the 19 000 to whom this applies.  It knows that few are making the sort of 'lifestyle choice' which many electioneering advocates of this change named as the issue.  It knows that the most vulnerable - including those fleeing abuse in a family home - are the least likely to be in a position to negotiate discretionary financial provision from the state.

The picture of the working child comes from the church at Holton-cum-Beckering visited on the West Lindsey Open Churches weekend.
